JFK expresses his philosophy about US-Algerian relations when he calls the current political scene

“…a very sensitive and difficult matter”

he goes onto say that the United States should attempt

“…to build there rather than attempting for political purposes to exploit a situation.”

Some Kennedy observers feel that this view is hypocritical in view of his controversial and opposing statements on the Algerian situation in 1957.
