JFK was moved to this private school on the border of Brookline and Boston from the local public school Edward Devotion at age 7, along with his older brother Joe. The school day ran from 8:15 am to 4:45 pm.
Both of JFK’s parents supported the switch in schools. Dexter was the replacement school for the discontinued lower forms of the desirable Noble and Greenough school. For Joe, Sr., this was a first rung to be climbed in gaining social acceptance for his sons as they would be mixing with the sons of Beacon Hill from the Saltonstall, Lodge, and Cabot families.
For Rose, she saw the longer school hours as a check on the boys rambunctiousness.
