JFK, accompanied by the 103, 104, 117, and 161, took PT 109 on a nighttime patrol to Gizo to hunt Japanese float planes. During the patrol, the squadron was bombed and strafed. The 117 returned fire with no record of the 109 firing her guns. The squadron returned to base without injuries or casualties.
