JFK flew back to Washington, D.C. from his Florida vacation.
After arriving back at the White House, JFK presided over a meeting of the National Security Council. Among the attendees were Vice-president Lyndon Johnson, Attorney General Robert Kennedy, Secretary of State Dean Rusk, and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara.
During the day, JFK almost met with New York Yankees baseball star Roger Maris, who autographed a baseball for Kennedy.
Kennedy, accompanied by Secretary of State Dean Rusk, met British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan at the airport. That night, Kennedy and Macmillan, attended the White House Correspondents’ and Photographers’ dinner.
